We all have a role to play in the fight against Antimicrobial Resistance. That is why we are working hard to ensure that antimicrobials continue to be effective. The best way to achieve this in the countries is through articulated National Action Plans for the human health, animal health and and environment sectors. Under the “One Health” concept, through the tripartite alliance of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), together with the international organizations of the Americas region, are working hard to fight Antimicrobial Resistance.

Support for the elaboration of articulated National Action Plans

With the objective of detailing the regional advances on the improvement of the National Action Plans on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), harmonized in the Southern Cone, the members of the Permanent Veterinary Committee met last July 23 and 24 in Santiago de Chile, to “INSURE THE FUTURE AGAINST PHARMACORRESISTENT INFECTIONS”. (http://www.cvpconosur.org/)

The workshop was attended by the Chief Veterinary Officers of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, who together with regional representatives of the Tripartite Alliance organizations, discussed the follow-up and improvement of their national AMR plans with harmonized regional guidelines. They also discussed the possibilities of providing funding for this objective (New Trust Fund to combat AMR at the global level).

Analysis of the report of the Interagency Coordination Group

During the REGIONAL WORKSHOP CVP/OIE-OPS-FAO, the Report for the Secretary General of the United Nations of the Inter-Agency Coordination Group in RAM was analyzed (download the Report) and comments were prepared for the drafting of a regional report that would include the considerations of the ministers of agriculture and would be able to influence and contribute to the decisions of the ministers of health, reinforcing the “One Health” approach.
