Nowadays, as a consequence of globalization, the spread of infectious diseases can be vertiginous. 60% of the pathogens that affect man are of animal origin. Thus, an effective surveillance for early detection of these diseases in animals is essential to allow their rapid control and protect populations, both animal and human. Since its inception, one of the historic missions of the OIE is to ensure transparency and improve knowledge of the global situation of animal diseases, including zoonoses.
