It is a joint initiative between the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which combines the strength of both organizations for the fight against transboundary animal diseases.
Since the OIE standards are adopted by the Veterinary Services (SV) and this impacts the animal production chain that includes all stakeholders, the OIE Regional Representation for the Americas developed the Regional Committees as a place of discussion between the private sector and the VS. In this framework, the private sector can propose the modification of the rules to the SV and this can (or can not) make the official proposal to the OIE to modify them.
In this context, the Regional Committees encourage interaction between the private sector and the VS:
CAMEVET: American Committee of Veterinary Drugs
CISA: Inter-American Committee on Poultry Health
CISAA: Inter-American Committee on Aquatic Animal Health (forthcoming)
